Assessment question / task focus: Explain the merits of two different types of employee recognition schemes.

What the worked example shows

Two recognition approaches that Mercy Frontier could introduce are peer-to-peer recognition and formal values-based recognition awards. Both can reinforce positive contribution without relying entirely on additional pay. Peer-to-peer recognition allows employees to recognise colleagues for behaviours or contributions that demonstrate organisational values. For example, a field worker could recognise a colleague for demonstrating dignity and responsibility when supporting displaced families, while a fundraising employee could recognise effective collaboration with programme teams. Recognition could be provided through an internal platform, monthly communications or team meetings. The strength of peer recognition is immediacy.

This is a deliberately shortened extraction of the themes demonstrated in the paid worked-example resource. It is not the complete answer.

Key areas to develop in your own answer

  • Identify the main concept, framework, model, practice or issue contained in the task.
  • Use the case-study facts rather than writing only generic HR theory.
  • Connect the relevant people-practice issue to organisational impact, employee outcomes or business objectives where the task requires it.
  • For higher-order command verbs, weigh evidence, limitations, alternatives or implications rather than simply describing points.
  • Support substantive claims with appropriate academic or professional evidence and use the referencing approach required by your centre.

Study direction

Read the shortened guidance first, then use the complete worked example to study how the ideas are developed into a structured response. The worked example is a study resource: adapt the reasoning, conduct your own research and write your own assessment response.

Command verb: Pay particular attention to the first word of the task — explain, analyse, assess, evaluate, compare, discuss or another verb — because it determines the depth of reasoning expected.
